Where did the idea for a cycling event originate?
The idea for a cycling event came from a small group of people working on fundraising for the Siem Reap Food Bank (SRFB). Naret Chhoy, the Trustee/Director for the SRFB and Claire Wyatt, a volunteer from England and a keen cyclist, who was working for a cycle tour company developed the idea. Naret then approached a group of friends with disabilities and the idea became a reality.
What will the cyclists do in the stopover points?
There is only a little free time at each stop, but we hope the cyclists can visit important places in each community. The cyclists all grew up poor and remain poor, sot they have not been able to afford to travel to see these places.
What challenges have the cyclists faced during the COVID pandemic?
The challenge for all poor families during the pandemic is trying to get enough food for the families. After that it is to find work, which is not easy with so many businesses shutdown by COVID19. Poor nutrition leads to health problems which can place another burden on the family financially. people with disabilities are a high-risk group during the pandemic.
